Plane collides with deer in Charlotte, NC

The airport will look into how the deer got onto the runway, an airport spokeswoman told the Observer.

A pilot of a passenger plane had to declare an emergency landing after smashing into an anima on the runway when attempting to take-off.

A plane has hit a deer departing Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Wednesday afternoon, according to FAA officials.

The flight was headed to Gulfport, Mississippi, and the passengers were placed on another flight. "However, the airport property includes thousands of fenced acres and includes vast areas of undeveloped land", the spokesperson said.

Officials said they were spraying down the runway after fuel began to leak from the plane. Forty-four passengers were on the plane during the incident, and all were safely removed from the plane, according to American Airlines.

No injuries were reported.
