After South Dakota State took an early 8-2 lead, Gonzaga's defense stiffened as it held the Jackrabbits to 33.3 percent shooting in the first half.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs will begin their quest for the first Final Four in program history with a matchup against the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Thursday afternoon in Salt Lake City. The Wildcats had the 11th-most three-point attempts of tourney teams this season (810 total, 23.8 per game), and they made 37 percent of those shots. Gonzaga presents too many interior mismatches for South Dakota State and the Jackrabbits' tendency to rely on one player to propel their offense is a recipe for disaster against a tough Bulldogs defense.

The Zags, who took their first lead with 1:40 to play in the first half, advance to play the victor of Thursday afternoon's game between No. 8 seed Northwestern and No. 9 seed Vanderbilt on Saturday.
