Double award for Jaguar F-PACE | Awards

Beating both the Audi Q5 and Volkswagen Tiguan to the coveted prize, the Jag SUV has already contributed to record sales growth for the British vehicle maker becoming the fastest-selling model in Jaguar's history.

And along with taking the leading award, the F-Pace likewise scooped this year's statute in the style category- an award open up to any automobile nominated in any category.

Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said: "The F-PACE was designed and engineered as a performance SUV with exceptional dynamics, everyday usability and bold design".

Meanwhile the Mercedes-Benz E-Class took out the best luxury vehicle award and the Porsche Boxster/Cayman won World Performance auto of the Year.

These are the latest in a line of major honours for the F-PACE since its April 2016 introduction. The winners of the 2017 World Car of the Year awards were announced today at the New York Auto Show and it comes after months of deliberation by a panel of 75 global automotive journalists that began back in September at the Paris Motor Show. Some people thought that the automaker must not experiment with an SUV as it can only excel in exquisite luxury cars.

Aside from the World Car of the Year award, there were 5 other categories.

Jaguar's first SUV F-Pace was declared the World Car Design of the Year and World Car of the Year 2017 at the New York International Auto Show, that kicked off on Wednesday. "This very reporter predicted this victory weeks ago ("...the odds-on pick has to be the Jaguar F-Pace...").

Gold, silver hit five-month highs
Holdings of SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, rose 0.50 per cent to 842.41 tonnes on Tuesday. Gold could resume its rise ahead of the Easter long-weekend, Jeffrey Halley, senior market analyst at OANDA, said.

To be eligible for the overall World Car award, the candidates must become available for sale on at least two continents during the period beginning January 1, 2016 and ending May 31, 2017.

The performance SUV is the fastest selling model Jaguar has produced.

However perhaps the greatest surprise at this year's awards reveal that the Toyota Prius hybrid grabbed the Green Car Award.

The new World Car of the Year has contributed to record sales growth by attracting new customers to the brand.

Meanwhile the Porsche Boxster Cayman took the World Performance Car gong.
