Pakistan announces test squad for Windies series

Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Thursday called curtains on his worldwide career, announcing that the upcoming three-match series against West Indies beginning April 22 in Barbados will be his last.

Misbah-ul-Haq will quit after Pakistan's Test series against West Indies.

Pakistan suffered six consecutive test defeats and lost series in New Zealand and Australia, which triggered speculation about Misbah's future as the test captain.

Misbah confirmed he had thought about retirement from test matches by end of 2015 but the tours to England, New Zealand and Australia spurred him on to continue leading the side.

He is also Pakistan's most successful test captain, having led the side to 24 wins in 53 matches.

Speaking to reporters today, Misbah urged the nation to throw their support behind Sarfraz Ahmed, the current ODI and T20I captain and a likely successor to Misbah in the Test format.

The 42-year-old took his team to No. 1 spot in ICC Test Rankings, becoming the only Pakistani cricketer to lift the coveted Test mace.

Misbah has played 72 test matches, scoring 4,951 runs at an average of 45.84 with 10 centuries. However, there was a sigh of relief when he said that he was yet to hang his boots and will continue playing at domestic level. But overall it's fine and not like I am under any pressure or somebody has dictated this to me.

The central bank chose to raise the federal funds rate for the third time since 2008 in a near unanimous call during its meeting in March.

Senior sports journalist Majid Bhatti said Misbah's announcement is a positive for Pakistan cricket.

"My cricket journey was very good", he said Thursday, though, he said he wished he could have played a series against arch-rivals India. "You don't get everything you ask for".

The West Indies and Pakistan will aim to consolidate their positions in their bid to qualify directly for the ICC World Cup 2019 when they will feature in a three-match ODI series starting in Guyana on Friday.

Looking in good spirits despite the loss in the T20 series, the players were rushed off to the team hotel and included on the bus was Gabriel.

Under Misbah's leadership, Pakistan also achieved the number-one Test ranking for the first time since the current rankings system was introduced in 2003.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said that the squad has been selected after consulting head coach Mickey Arthur and captain Misbah ul Haq.

Hasan Ali and Rumman Raees, replacing fellow left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir from the previous match, displayed admirable accuracy and discipline, combining for three important wickets and also delivering three maiden overs.

He said Misbah should be given a proper send-off as his services for Pakistan cricket are laudable.
