Pakistan Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq on Thursday called curtains on his worldwide career, announcing that the upcoming three-match series against West Indies beginning April 22 in Barbados will be his last.
Misbah-ul-Haq will quit after Pakistan's Test series against West Indies.
Pakistan suffered six consecutive test defeats and lost series in New Zealand and Australia, which triggered speculation about Misbah's future as the test captain.
Misbah confirmed he had thought about retirement from test matches by end of 2015 but the tours to England, New Zealand and Australia spurred him on to continue leading the side.
He is also Pakistan's most successful test captain, having led the side to 24 wins in 53 matches.
Speaking to reporters today, Misbah urged the nation to throw their support behind Sarfraz Ahmed, the current ODI and T20I captain and a likely successor to Misbah in the Test format.
The 42-year-old took his team to No. 1 spot in ICC Test Rankings, becoming the only Pakistani cricketer to lift the coveted Test mace.
Misbah has played 72 test matches, scoring 4,951 runs at an average of 45.84 with 10 centuries. However, there was a sigh of relief when he said that he was yet to hang his boots and will continue playing at domestic level. But overall it's fine and not like I am under any pressure or somebody has dictated this to me.
