Ill. House Passes Property Tax Freeze

IL lawmakers are supposed to complete the budget and adjourn for the summer Wednesday, but some speculate Democrats will push past the deadline to put pressure on Republicans both in the Senate and Governor's office.

Rauner and the state's top Democrats, House Speaker Michael Madigan and Senate President John Cullerton, have been at the odds since the governor took office in 2015 promising to make IL more economically competitive. "They're just going to replace people no big deal", Plainfield Rep. Mark Batinick says. Some protesters were seen being dragged out of the gallery by security staff. The House's 67 Democrats would need GOP votes to achieve a 71-vote supermajority.

The protesters are part of a coalition called Fair Economy Illinois.

The bill marks the second time lawmakers in IL have attempted to enact automatic registration.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) - Illinois school chiefs are pressing lawmakers to pass a budget that fully funds schools before the legislative session draws to a close this week. You have a permanent increase in the income tax and (this is) two years?

School district superintendents from across the state will convene at the state Capitol on the General Assembly's Wednesday deadline to urge lawmakers to produce the state's first complete budget in two years.

Rauner's spokepersons, however, have dismissed those efforts as "phony".

For his part, Dubke said: "I'm comfortable in knowing the folks at the White House appreciated the job that I did". New jobs for campaign staff? Dubke, who had been in the job just three months, gave no reason for leaving.

The self-inflicted crisis has left the fifth most-populous state with a record $14.5 billion of unpaid bills, ravaged entities like universities and social service providers that rely on state aid and undermined Illinois's standing in the bond market.

The Executive Committee approved a proposal that eases the process of merging or dissolving townships or for cities to absorb townships of the same geographical area.

"We'd like to have a seat at the table, so to speak", Langfelder told The State Journal-Review. "We hope Gov. Rauner will make it official and sign this bill right away".

James R. Thompson Center for sale? Common sense says no, but it's at least a possibility in a state where politics are always volatile.

Another group stormed the House chambers Tuesday afternoon.

Madigan released a statement after the measure cleared, saying it shows the House Democrats continue to show "willingness to work with the governor to achieve his goals". Klinger and his fellow marchers say their budget plan would offer young people opportunity and give the elderly a sense of security.
