Some James Comey Memos Contained Classified Information

President Donald Trump was up early on Monday morning tweeting out his feelings about segments he was watching on Fox & Friends.

Wray's hearing comes just more than two months after President Trump abruptly fired former director James Comey, who had led the bureau since September 2013. "That is so illegal!" Roy Blount (R-Mo.) on whether the memos were "government documents", Comey testified that they were not, calling them the personal recordings of a private citizen. "It's against the law".

Ironically, Conway said that the issue of classified information was "exactly the problem that Hillary Clinton had with her illegal server, the handling of classified and confidential information that Jim Comey was meant to investigate, if not prosecute".

But while Trump's cable news obsession might make it easier to identify the source of misleading reports he shares, fact-checking will likely do nothing to stop his supporters on social media from repeating the falsehood.

Trump is a noted fan of the show "Fox and Friends" and often tweets about news featured on the show.

At the time, Comey claimed that the memos he kept - and the one he leaked to a friend in the hopes of securing a special counsel in the Russian Federation investigation - were personal property and didn't contain classified information.

One must have a security clearance sufficiently high to warrant access to the material in question - and some classified information (including what was in Petraeus's journals) is so closely held that even an official with a top-secret clearance must have a "need to know" and be "read into the program" to which the information relates.

He also retweeted a number of "Fox and Friends" clips, including one related to New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio's absence at a vigil ceremony for a slain NYPD officer.

Comey testified last month that he considered the memos to be personal documents. It was about a February 14 meeting, where Comey said Trump asked him to stop investigating former national security adviser Mike Flynn.

However, he also hinted his memos could have contained classified information but that he "immediately prepared an unclassified memo of the conversation".

"Correct", Comey answered. "I understood this to be my recollection recorded of my conversation with the president". Comey, in a June 8 hearing in Congress, had said that he hoped there were tapes to support his view that in their discussions Trump had pressured him over the Russian Federation probe.

Comey later detailed portions of the memos in his written testimony provided to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
